Is CBD Oil legal? Let’s find out !

Cannabis-derived drug oil, commonly known as CBD oil has gained immense popularity in recent times, because of the health benefits associated with the same. However, it is still a controversy if this oil is legal or not.

Our answer to this most controversial question is that it is mostly legal but with certain conditions. The “but” in this statement plays a very important role.

Before we dwell into the details of its legal status, let’s get to know more about CBD oil.

What is CBD oil?

The two main components present in cannabinoid plant are Tetrahydrocannabinol and CBD. While tetrahydrocannabinol is listed as a restricted drug under the “Misuse drugs Act 1971, because of the psychoactive effect on the human mind,  CBD is mild and doesn’t have any such effects on the human body. CBD has overwhelmingly positive effects on human health.

Extracted from CBD compound of cannabis plants, this oil is made up of about 100 cannabinoids, and chemical compounds. The chemical compounds act on cannabinoid receptors that further reform the neurotransmitters released in the brain. These neurotransmitters have a different effect on different parts of the body. Unlike Marijuana, CBD oil won’t get its users “high” and this quality makes it a viable option to treat various neurological problems like Parkinson that can also help to provide relief from pain without altering the mind.

In countries like the UK, users can easily get hold of CBD oil with a doctor’s prescription but only in moderate quantities.

With time and some scientific studies, this oil is getting popular.  Various studies have confirmed that the use of CBD oil helps in getting rid of chronic pains and problems like anxiety.

Benefits of CBD oil

Here are some of the proven benefits associated with CBD oil:

1. Pain reliever

Back in 2900 B.C. marijuana was used a pain reliever but owing its mind-altering effects, the drug was banned. Recent studies have discovered that CBD has similar pain-relieving effects without any undesirable consequences. Endocannabinoid is the special system in the human body that regulates a variety of routine functions like pain, appetite, sleep, and the response of the immune system.

According to science, CBD helps in relieving pain by impacting receptor activities of endocannabinoid system providing aid in reducing the effect of inflammation and other pain relieving conditions.

Various other studies also support the fact that a combination of CBD and THC can significantly improve conditions like arthritis and multiple sclerosis.

2. Can help to overcome problems like anxiety and depression

Anxiety and depression are two such problems that can have a huge impact on the overall wellness and health of human beings. Recently WHO has released a statement on the causes of mental and physical disabilities, in which, depression ranked first while anxiety ranked sixth.

While using pharmaceutical drugs to treat anxiety and depression, the patient can also suffer from side effects such as insomnia, agitation, headache, drowsiness and sexual dysfunction. The situation gets even worse when a person gets addicted to these medicines; however, the usage of CBD oil to curb down problems like anxiety and depression has shown promising results. It is a more natural way of treating such disorders.

3. Can help to overcome the side effects of cancer treatment

CBD oil is very effective in overcoming side effects such as nausea, pain, vomiting, and anxiety arising from cancer treatment. Apart from this, it can also help to reduce and prevent the symptoms of cancer.

In a recent study, CBD was given to about 170 people who were not getting relief from cancer-related pain with medications. With the consumption of CBD oil, it was noted that there was a significant reduction in the amount of pain these people were experiencing. For all such people undergoing chemotherapy, this one of the most recommended natural drug.

4. Neuroprotective properties

CBD oil has the ability to impact the endocannabinoid system along with other brain signaling systems. This property of CBD oil makes it a beneficial natural drug to deal with various neurological disorders.

Studies have shown that the use of CBD oil helps in treating problems like sclerosis and epilepsy. However, this area has not been much explored by scientists. But some studies have shown promising results highlighting the potential of CBD oil in treating all such neurological problems.

5. May help in treating acne

Acne is one of the most common skin problems, people have to deal with. It is caused due to various factors like bacteria, genetics, overproduction of sebum, excessive oil secretion or underlying inflammation.

Various scientific studies have supplemented the fact that CBD oil is effective in treating acne because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Regular use of CBD oil also prevents sebaceous gland cells from secreting sebum. CBD oil can be used as a proactive measure to prevent skin problems like acne.

6. Can help in improving heart health

Various researchers have found a promising effect of CBD oil in improving heart health. It helps to improve the blood circulation system that in turns helps to regulate the blood pressure. High blood pressure is often linked with various other major problems like heart attack, heart stroke, and paralysis. CBD is a natural yet effective way of treating all such problems. The anti-anxiety, anti-stress and anti-oxidant properties of this natural oil are the primary reasons why it is recommended to patients suffering from high blood pressure.

7. Helps to get rid of drug addiction

According to studies, CBD oil is an effective yet natural remedy to get rid of drug addiction. It helps in modifying the circuits in the brain. No human studies have been conducted so far, but in rats, CBD has shown a positive impact on reducing the effect of heroin and morphine.

8. Other miscellaneous benefits

There are various other benefits of CBD oil but more research and studies are required to substantiate the same. Various animal studies have shown that CBD oil has anti-tumor properties. It helps in preventing the spread of deadly tumors of the breast, brain, lungs, and prostate amongst animals. Also, studies conducted on diabetic mice showed that there was a significant reduction in the incidence by about 55%.

Is CBD legal?

Owing to such amazing health benefits, many countries have legalized the use of CBD, but with a medical prescription and in moderate quantities. The CBD oil products you intend to use must be certified and must have less than .3% of THC content. As far as you are following these guidelines, no drug tests will raise a red flag.

Also, the dosage of CBD oil is yet another matter of concern. If you are using a high amount of CBD, let’s say 1000 mg per day then you will be exposed to around 3 mg of THC, which is certainly not good for your health and is also not legal.

Hence, anybody using CBD oil must consume it responsibly to avoid any legal and most importantly health issues.
