Menthol present in the peppermint can aggravate stomach ulcers and can cause further damage. So people should not use this tea in excess.

Peppermint contains over 40 distinct chemical compounds. It has high amount of menthol which gives minty flavour and cooling sensation. Dried peppermint contains approximately 0.3- 0.4% of oil containing menthol and other compounds including limonene, pulegone, menthyl acetate, caryophyllene etc. Peppermint also contains flavonoids and terpenoids such as eriocitrin, kaempferol and hesperidin etc. It also contains antioxidants. Peppermint possesses a broad range of biological activities including digestive, choleretic, carminative, antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic, antispasmodic, myorelaxant, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, tonic and vasodilatator.
