Is it safe to put olive oil on face?

Mostly it is safe to apply olive oil on your face.

But what suits everyone may not suit you and it is always to be prepared for any harmful effects.

Olive oil is comedogenic in nature. This means that it does have a tendency to clog your pores. If that happens and you have oily skin then you might just face a breakout which is something that you would not want.

However, to be on the safer side you can wash the oil off after 30 minutes or so.

For normal or dry skin you can massage the oil for five minutes and leave it for overnight. So using it or not on your face is totally dependent on your skin quality.

If your skin is not prone to breakouts then there is no problem in going ahead with the olive oil treatment. Else you might have to first apply at a small portion of skin and wait to see if any side effects are seen.

Can olive oil clog pores and cause acne?

Even though olive oil is very beneficial for your skin excessive use can be damaging. Heavy by nature olive oil does not seep into your pores as easy as you would expect it to. It makes a layer on your skin thus clogging your pores.

If you use it pretty frequently it would invariably trap the sebum, dirt, and dust in it.

When this happens the probability of a breakout happening increases.  Next, you know your face is facing pimples and acne and there are no signs of respite. In such a situation it is recommended that the usage of the oil not be done in excess.

If you have oily skin or have faced acne problem in the past keep your usage of olive oil limited to twice a week and nothing more than that.
